Welcome to Magellan™: Getting Started
This guide will walk you through the first steps to prepare for your first flight and ensure you have access to all the training, software, and support resources included with your Magellan™ system.
Step 1: FAA Certification Requirements
Before operating your Magellan system, you must ensure you meet all applicable FAA requirements.
Need Your Part 107 Certification?
If you have not yet obtained your FAA Part 107 Remote Pilot Certificate, an additional training course is available through SmartDrone’s online training platform to help you prepare for the FAA exam.
We recommend completing the Part 107 preparation course and obtaining your certification before proceeding with the remainder of your Magellan training.
Already Part 107 Certified?
If you already hold a valid FAA Part 107 Remote Pilot Certificate, continue to the next step.
Step 2: Complete Your Online Training
SmartDrone provides access to our online training platform, where you’ll find everything needed to learn and operate your Magellan system.

Step 3: Install Your Software
Magellan customers receive access to both CYAN and Pulse, which work together to support mission planning, data management, and deliverable generation.
Download CYAN
CYAN is SmartDrone’s Field Confirmation software to ensure collection is complete and successful before leaving the Field.

Download Pulse
Pulse is SmartDrone’s point cloud processing and deliverable generation software.
Important: Pulse Requires a Two-Step Installation
Pulse depends on additional software components to function properly.
1. Install Required Dependencies
Download and install the required dependencies package before installing Pulse.
Dependencies Download:
Allow the installation to complete before moving to the next step.
2. Install Pulse
Once the dependencies have been successfully installed, download and install Pulse.
Pulse Download:
Installing Pulse before the dependencies may result in missing components or software errors.
Step 4: Firmware & Software Updates
Software Updates
Both CYAN and Pulse include a launcher window that appears when the software is opened.
From the launcher window, you’ll have the ability to:
- Check for available software updates
- Download the latest software versions
- Install updates directly from the launcher
We recommend checking for updates regularly to ensure you’re running the latest version of each application.
